Norwich Union Firebirds 10-31 UEA 24-Sep-2022

Struggling as many 2nd and 3rd XV sides are at the moment, the Firebirds had their ranks supplemented by players from Norwich 3, Great Yarmouth Broadland and Lakenham Hewett which resulted in a Barbarians feel to the team and resulted in some great Rugby and most important of all a game for the 40 or so players on both sides.
The Firebirds kept a typically youthful UEA team at bay for much of the game spending a lot of time in the UEA territory, denying their fleet of foot opponents the opportunity to attack and through number-eight Josh Crosley scoring two tries. There was also a man of the match performance from Ant Payne one of the loan players from Great Yarmouth Broadland who stepped in at hooker and led from the front both in attack and defence playing with a smile on his face and clearly enjoying his Rugby.
As is always the case though youth and exuberance finds a way and the students were able to score five tries to the Firebirds two, adding three conversions resulting in a final score pf 10-31.
The Firebirds next game on the 1st October and is away to Watton, which has a 3pm KO
